My life as a child was defined by a single word–chaos.
By the third grade I had attended four different schools. Homelife was one crisis after another.
Chaos followed me relentlessly. Insecurities and anxiety ensued.
However, there was a shining light in my life. My beloved sister. Today is her birthday.
As chaotic as our home life was, she has always been a constant. Like a lighthouse amidst the raging sea, she shone brightly.
My sister, Veronica Jean Finley, has given me protection, guidance, and support through all of the phases of my life. Unselfish in all of her ways, she inspired me to work hard and to rise above the adversity. Not by her words, but by her actions.
At an early age she started working and taking action to make a better life. She even got me my first job when I was fifteen at a local restaurant where we worked together for a while. Although I never told her, our time working together was precious to me. I carefully watched her work each day. She worked harder and with more enthusiasm than any of her co-workers.
Observing those habits, I have tried to emulate her ever since.
Til this day, she still plays the role of protector as she now has a family of her own. Her children now have the opportunity to see that same dedication up close and personal. Not by what she says, but by what she does.
As I encourage others to pursue their personal best in life and in business, I am reminded on my sister’s birthday who it was that showed me the way.
My world is better place as I strive to follow her lead.
