What every employee should bring to their employer.
You should always be underpaid, always. Intentionally.
What do I mean?
So many employees are focused on getting the most money for their labor, this is a mistake. The value employers bring to the employee is not so much the regular paycheck, but instead an opportunity for growth. Training. A laboratory in which to experiment. A place to test your theories and put them into action.
When you have the choice to take the job that pays more or to take the job that offers more opportunity for learning, always take the one that provides learning. Your value is in direct proportion to your skills and education, so in the end, you become more valuable to the company and ultimately in the marketplace.
Simply put, your company produces profit from your labor, your creativity, your ingenuity. Give them a really good deal. Always. Intentionally.
The same is true for entrepreneurs and business owners. Your services and pricing should reflect incredible value.
My argument is not that you should be the lowest price, God forbid! What I am saying is that you should give more to your clients than they expect, to provide a service that is well above what they expect, and a helluva lot more than your competition can offer.
Providing this incredible value makes you indispensable.
You should always be underpaid, always. Intentionally.
