Who is Barry Baker?
Barry is the Executive Vice President with City Gospel Mission in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barry is a native of Nashville Tennessee where he grew up with his two brothers, all raised by his strong willed and sacrificial mother Martha Baker. His journey to working in ministry started in the back of a UPS truck and the heat of an old Bible warehouse in Tennessee.
After graduating from Tennessee Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering he started his career working for Procter & Gamble at the Pringles Operation in Jackson, Tennessee. His career progressed and he ended up in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Barry left P&G to work with Athletes in Action, the sports branch of Campus Crusade for Christ in 2000. While on staff with AIA he held several national leadership positions working in the Professional and Collegiate Sports Divisions and then later had worldwide responsibilities with the International Sports Division.
Discovering sports ministry was not his future, Barry joined City Gospel Mission in February of 2005. Creating and growing new youth programs such as Whiz Kids, he has been a major force in growing City Gospels’ goal of making a difference in the lives of the poor and underserved in our communities.
Those who know him, know him as a man of great integrity. Many of those people have stories of his kindness and competitiveness. Barry was a sports dad and coach and left his mark on many a young person in the Milford, Ohio community. Barry raised his four kids Brandon, Mallory, Matt, and Zach with his wife Terri. Of course these kids are all great athletes and great human beings, just like dad.
